01
Start with the dates
Write down when your existing coverage ends and when you need new coverage to begin. Keep notices from your employer or insurer. Do not assume a new application will take effect immediately.
02
Check your enrollment options
A qualifying life event can create a Special Enrollment Period, subject to requirements and deadlines. Ask which documents are needed and verify the current rules with your marketplace. Georgia residents can use Georgia Access for official enrollment information.
03
Review the whole household
Available employer coverage, household changes, and location can affect the options worth considering. Ask about continuity of care and possible gaps. Wait for confirmation of your new coverage before canceling an existing plan.
