01
Identify the type of protection
Ask whether the product is comprehensive major medical insurance or an additional, limited benefit. Some fixed-indemnity products pay a specified amount for a defined event or service, which may be far less than the bill. They are not a replacement for comprehensive medical coverage.
02
Read the payment schedule
Look for the events that trigger payment, benefit amounts, frequency limits, waiting periods and exclusions. Ask how pre-existing conditions are handled and what documentation a claim requires. A marketing example does not establish what your circumstances will qualify for.
03
Compare it with your existing coverage
Check whether you already have similar protection and what gaps remain. Consider the separate premium and expenses you would still owe. Do not use a fixed benefit amount as if it were an out-of-pocket maximum on your medical bills.
04
Get clear written answers
Request the policy and a plain-language description of its limitations. Confirm who receives payment and how claims are submitted. Ask a qualified advisor about the role of the product in your situation rather than assuming more policies automatically mean adequate coverage.
